Jefferson Title began more than 40 years ago as a small family-operated company, opening its doors as Jefferson Land Title Services Company, Incorporated. With the Sanders family at the helm, Jefferson Title has investigated the history of hundreds of thousands of properties across the state, providing assurance and security to their customers.
In 1967 Birmingham was a growing community; Eastwood Mall, the south’s first covered mall, was thriving. Elvis wed Pricilla, The Beatles topped the charts with “Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” and James Bond was everyone’s on-screen hero. On the gridiron, coming off their 1st Super Bowl win in 1966, the Green Bay Packers led by former Alabama quarterback Bart Starr, played to sold out crowds which culminated in the NFL Championship game, know universally as the Ice Bowl. The 1967 football season was the last for the great Vince Lombardi as the Packer’s head coach.
It was into an era of hard work and dedication that Jefferson Title was founded. As the great Vince Lombardi said “Individual commitment to a group effort - that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work.”
From day one, the company was built on the principal of outstanding service. To make that goal a reality, the company created its own automated title plant. Some years later, that evolved into the city's first computerized title plant service. Other innovations, like staff attorneys and 24-hour turnaround, helped establish the company's reputation for quick, reliable service. Leon Sanders also established the State’s first Attorney Agents network to insure homeowners in every city in Alabama.
The title insurance business rose and fell along with the local economy. Other title companies entered the market. Some lasted, but most disappeared as quickly as they had come. Over time, the company name was shortened, the staff gradually increased, and Jefferson Title Corporation became a respected name in the marketplace.
